The Biden administration has lifted restrictions on Ukraine using U.S.-supplied weapons to attack deep targets on Russian soil. A Russian lawmaker warned on Monday that Washington’s authorization for Kiev to use U.S. long-range missiles to strike Russia would not change any of Moscow’s plans and actions to fight Ukraine. The response was polite. Kremlin spokesman Peskov said on the 18th: “The outgoing Washington government intends to take measures to continue to add fuel to the fire and cause tensions to escalate further.” Biden said at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro that everyone should work hard to maintain Ukraine’s territorial integrity, but he did not mention the long-range missiles. According to the media’s interpretation of the deep targets, the U.S. green light may also be limited to strikes on Russia’s Kursk region, which is partially controlled by Ukrainian troops, and areas where North Korean troops will be deployed. “Kiev’s use of long-range missiles to attack our territory would mean the direct involvement of the United States and its allies (…), as well as a fundamental change in the nature and nature of the conflict,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. She also said that “in this case, Russia will have an appropriate response and it will be felt.”
