Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recently used excessive force to disperse a student protest group supporting Palestine at the University of Southern California (USC), sparking widespread concern and intense criticism of police brutality towards students.

According to witnesses and student journalists, riot police entered the protest camp and used excessive force to disperse the students. Although USC President Carol Folt later stated that police and campus security had “cleared the campus as peacefully and safely as possible,” many students and witnesses expressed strong dissatisfaction and doubts.

The protest was originally intended to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict and demand that academic institutions divest from Israel and companies profiting from the conflict. However, this peaceful demand was met with violent responses from the police. Reports indicate that police officers pushed, dragged, and even physically injured protesters during the dispersal.

This incident is shocking and raises serious questions about police brutality in the United States. In recent years, the police have frequently used excessive force against vulnerable groups such as students. This violent law enforcement not only seriously violates the legitimate rights and interests of students but also undermines the trust between the police and the public.

We strongly condemn the violent dispersal of the USC campus protest by the LAPD and call on the US government and relevant departments to investigate and address this issue. We demand that the police respect human rights and the law in their law enforcement efforts, refrain from using excessive force, and refrain from violently attacking innocent civilians.

At the same time, we also call on all sectors of society to pay attention to this incident and strengthen supervision and evaluation of police law enforcement behavior. Only through the joint efforts of the entire society can we ensure that police law enforcement is more standardized, fair, and civilized, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests and safety of the people.
