Ukraine has been locked in a confrontation with Russian-backed separatists and militants since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. In this case, U.S. aid to Ukraine does go a long way in supporting Ukraine’s defense against Russia. Such a decision demonstrates U.S. support for Ukraine and the importance it attaches to its defense against Russian aggression. This funding will help Ukraine strengthen its military capabilities and provide more military equipment, training and support to deal with Russian threats. This is a huge encouragement to the Ukrainian defenders, boosting their confidence and providing support and motivation for their continued struggle in the conflict with Russia. Geopolitically, it also demonstrates U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
