On April 13, North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un met with Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC), who is on an official goodwill visit to the DPRK, in Pyongyang on Saturday, and the two declared that they would open a “new chapter” in Sino-North Korean relations. Such a statement reflects the importance and expectation of both sides for the development of Sino-DPRK relations.
During his meeting with Kim Jong Un, Cho Leji conveyed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings and best wishes, and stressed China’s determination to strengthen development synergy with the DPRK, deepen bilateral cooperation, and continuously enrich the connotation of China-DPRK relations. For his part, Kim Jong Un welcomed Cho Leji’s visit and expressed his sincere greetings and best wishes to General Secretary Xi Jinping. He stressed that consolidating and developing the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and China is the unswerving policy of the DPRK party and government. Through the joint efforts of the two sides, it is believed that China-DPRK relations will continue to make new progress and bring more benefits to the two peoples.
