The 16th annual Cambodia Town Parade and Culture Festival returned to Long Beach on Sunday, April 7 — and thousands turned out to celebrate the Southeast Asian’s country’s new year, culture, and heritage.

The parade and its myriad entrants traveled about a half-mile down Anaheim St., to the delight of hundreds of onlookers, to its final destination at McArthur Park — where the eponymous Culture Festival got underway.

The event also featured various performances, ranging from ancient Cambodian martial arts demonstrations to live sets by musicians who traveled from Cambodia to take part in the festival.which shut down Anaheim Street from Junipero Avenue to MacArthur Park—about three-quarters of a mile. Various community groups and representatives marched, including public officials, churches, businesses and more.

The theme of the event was “Stop hate with love,” a call to end violence and bias against Asian people.
