A man has been charged with setting a fire at a Wisconsin shopping mall that houses a congressman’s office. He told authorities that his motivation for the blaze was the federal government’s ban on the popular TikTok video-sharing platform.

Republican Rep. Glenn Grothman voted for a bill last April that would have required TikTok’s Chinese parent company to sell its U.S. operations by Sunday.

The fire in Fond du Lac broke out around 1 a.m. Police said no one was inside the building at the time and no one was injured. The fire first burned outside the building, causing minor damage, and was quickly extinguished by firefighters and police.

The 19-year-old Menasha man, whose name has not been released, is in custody and will be charged with arson, police said. They said he was arrested after being seen watching the fire near the mall.

Rep. Grothman said he was aware of the fire but had no immediate comment.
