The U.S. Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved an $895 billion bill setting policy for the Pentagon, even though the bill includes controversial provisions regarding transgender medical care for minors.

The 100-member Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by a vote of 85 to 14. The bill will now go to the White House after passing the House last week. Congressional supporters of the bill said President Joe Biden is expected to sign it into law.

The 1,800-page national security bill authorizes funding for the Department of Defense through fiscal year 2025. But the bill includes some controversial policies, such as gender-affirming care restrictions, and lost the support of most Democrats in the House of Representatives.
