Tropical Cyclone Chito hit the Comorian island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean on the 14th, causing casualties and serious damage. Mayotte officials said that the death toll caused by Chito may be as high as thousands.

Mayotte is located in southeastern Africa, with a population of more than 300,000, mainly distributed on two main islands. Due to the current traffic obstruction on the island, it is difficult to count the number of casualties. Some media reported that one-third of the residents on the island live in shanty towns, and the roofs and walls of these simple residences are almost completely destroyed.

Macron presided over an inter-departmental emergency meeting on the disaster in Mayotte that evening. After the meeting, he posted on social media that all emergency measures will be taken to rescue the victims and start post-disaster reconstruction. Macron also said that he will go to Mayotte in the near future.
