
A large-scale power outage occurred in Chile on the 25th, and the government declared a state of emergency in the affected areas. Chilean Interior Minister Toa said on the same day that due to the large-scale power outage across the country, the government has declared a “state of disaster” and decided to implement a curfew from 22:00 on the same day. The Chilean National Power System Operator issued a report on the 25th saying that at 15:16 on the same day, a 500 kV transmission system in northern Chile failed, resulting in a power outage from Arica in the north of the country to Los Lagos in the south.
On the 25th local time, the Chilean National Power Coordinator said that the power grid had restored about a quarter of the power and that power supply would be fully restored on the morning of the 26th. This large-scale power outage affected more than 98% of the population in Chile, that is, more than 19 million people were affected by the power outage.
