Local football team Tanjong Pagar United announced on Wednesday (February 12) that it has terminated the contract with 19-year-old young player Aniq Rizqin, who was arrested for violently assaulting an opposing player.
Aniq was hospitalized on Monday (10th) for punching two Albirex Niigata players in the face during the U21 league, causing 20-year-old player Kenji Austin Ho to be hospitalized. Aniq was later arrested by the police for public nuisance and is being investigated for intentional wounding. The Football Association of Singapore is also investigating.
Tanjong Pagar United posted on social media that they met with the U21 team manager, coach and players to review the incident, and after careful consideration, decided to terminate the contract with Aniq immediately. “The club will continue to provide assistance to Aniq and the relevant authorities in the police investigation.”
Alnwick made his first-team debut in September last year, playing in a 0-6 loss to Lion City Sailors in the Singapore Premier League. He has played three times in the SL so far.
Tanjong Pagar United also said in the article that it would not tolerate violence and unethical behavior on and off the field, and had emphasized this message to all staff, players and committee members of the club.
After apologizing to all members of Abyres in another post on Tuesday (11th), they also apologized to their own fans and said that they are in contact with Abyres and will provide support to Kenji Austin Ho.
Kenji Austin Ho was sent to the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for examination and could not recall the incident. He showed signs of concussion but no fractures or bleeding. He was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday morning and went home to recuperate.
Abyres also said in a post on Tuesday night that after the club conducted an internal investigation, it was determined that no club players or staff, including Kenji Austin Ho, had engaged in provocative behavior. They have handed the incident over to the Football Association of Singapore for handling.
